“Saturday Night Live” has finally found someone besides Kenan Thompson to play Whoopi Goldberg. It only took 5 years and major public urging, but “Saturday Night Live” has finally concluded it’s midseason search for a black female cast member.
On Monday the show announced 27-year-old sketch comedian Sasheer Zamata will fill the slot previously held by former “SNL” cast member Maya Rudolph. This marks the first time in 5 years the show has had a black female comic. Zamata is slated to make her primetime debut on Jan. 18, the next new edition of the show featuring Drake.
Zamata hails from Indianapolis and began her career working with the New York-based improve group Upright Citizens. She’s also appeared in sketches on the Comedy Central and “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” on FX.
